Client Oriented Practice WEB3008
unit brief
The main aim of this brief was to explore the professional practice of web design based on current industrial practices and client-led requirements. full brief
My group members were Bethan Osborne, Stuart Pyper, Ed Symington and Jason Gillyon.
proposal
After an initial meeting with the client, we found out that the client wanted a micro site within a few weeks that he could use at an upcoming conference. We focused our efforts on this to begin with and created a flash micro site with brief information about the product. We then created a content managed web site with community features to promote the product further.
planning
First, we each created sketches of our initial ideas. From this, we picked our favorite elements of each and then created mock-ups before finally creating the web site in HTML/CSS.
final piece
Launch microsite or fullsite. Download Documentation.
review
Overall this was an interesting project, we were able to successfully create two professional web sites that met web standards and provided a positive user experience. The group members complimented each other well and I'd happily work with any of them again.
Professional Initiatives & Orientation WEB3007
unit brief
The aim of this brief was to produce a proposal, web site and evaluation document. The web site should have a clear vision of function and purpose and demonstrate high levels of professional awareness, sensibility, creative and innovate technical abilities relevant to the professional orientation of commercial web design.
This brief also included producing a five thousand word dissertation related to my project which is available as a PDF on the right.
proposal
Initally I decided upon a mobile blogging website, but after researching into the idea, found that the facilities that i felt would be unique were already being deployed by others, which totally removed the unique aspect that i felt made my idea different to everything currently out there. After a second round of brainstorming sessions I then came up with the idea of combining two of my hobbies, photography and walking (the great outdoors!). Users would sign up to the site, and contribute by uploading their photos, via the web or direct from their mobile phone. For these pictures they would recieve points based on the letters that were in the place name of their current location (in the photo).
planning
I began by designing in paper format, sketching my inital layout ideas and stuctures. From this I then refined my efforts in photoshop, responding to user feedback I obtained I realised my designs in HTML/CSS.
final piece
Launch Phototheworld.
